Hi Gang

Here is a report from the last meeting (a little delayed, I have
been waiting for some info)
And
a reminder that we meet the first Thursday of the Month at the
library at 7:00 which this month is July 2

What was discussed at the last meeting

Energy & Transportation
Associated Buyers
Maple Valley School
Town Hall

Energy & Transportation

This resolution of the Energy & Transportation Committee is on the
agenda of the next special town meeting:

Whereas scientific consensus says that we have entered a period of
human-caused climate change, and is calling for an 80-90% reduction
in our output of climate-affecting gases (most significantly carbon
dioxide) in the next 40 years,

Whereas the federal Environmental Protection Agency has recently
declared climate-affecting gases a public health threat, and at the
state level the 2008 Mass. Global Warming Solutions Act is in
regulatory process,

Whereas the hunger for green electricity has already brought
harvesting for a biomass electric generating plant in Portsmouth,
N.H. to Wendell State Forest,

Whereas the effort to extend the license of our aging neighbor, the
Vt. Yankee Atomic Power Plant, offers a further sense of the stresses
from unchecked electricity demand,

And judging reduction of energy use to be the safest, surest way to
reduce carbon dioxide emissions and other negative environmental
impacts,

The Town of Wendell declares itself a Deliberate Energy Conserving
Community interested in developing an energy conservation ethic, and
asks the Selectboard to create and appoint members to a Wendell
Energy Task Force to examine strategies of reduced local energy use,
public and private, and to report its recommendations as reached, but
no later than the 2010 Annual Town Meeting.

Associated Buyer
Is a food distributor that sells to the coop and to the country store
They have fixed prices for each month - which solves one of the
problems we encountered
If we were to have the delivery somewhere else we would have to have
a $350 mim and there would be an 8% charge
Patti is willing to accept the order at her store and is considering
a 15% charge for handling the delivery and we would only need $300 or
add to her order
The info from the coops which has gone up is 25% mark up on the goods
for members
So this would be a saving for those of us who buy bulk and would
support our country store
If we wanted our own catalog it is $24 a year which could be kept at
the library
There is a small group of us who are going to put in an order to test
how to make this work
We are looking at maybe 3-4 orders this year to start
Anyone else interested just let me know

Maple Valley
More ideas were tossed around with an attempt to get specific about
how to attract schools, old age facilities, a combination of the two,
from existing companies and more research is being done.

The Town Hall
Came up in the discussion due to the amount of heating cost to the
town due to no / or very little insulation
Having the Full Moon and other events raise money to insulate and
save the town some money

Thanks to everyone for all the work they do to make this a great town

Paul
