To all Wendell citizens, The Joint Committee on Redistricting has issued a proposed legislative district map that would push Wendell out of Representative Kulik's legislative district. Rep. Kulik has been a strong supporter of our town and I feel it would be a setback to our work to no longer have his voice speak for us in the legislature. The Committee will vote Tuesday to recommend that this proposed redistricting become law. We have until Monday afternoon to appeal to the Committee to keep us in the 1st Franklin District, Rep. Kulik's district, and not be moved to the 2nd Franklin District as proposed. You can do so by clicking on this link: http://www.malegislature.gov/District/Contact There you will be to submit your personal appeal. I am working on a draft which I am willing to share as a Word file if you email me and request it. This is urgent. I hope you can help, Michael Michael Idoine Swallow Rise 11 John Quist Road PO Box 953 Wendell, MA 01379 (978)-544-2623 _______________________________________________ Wendell-townsfolk mailing list Wendell-townsfolk at deepsoft.com http://mailman.deepsoft.com/mailman/listinfo/wendell-townsfolk -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It sounds like you?re making good progress. I hope Greg Farmer was able to be helpful. I recently got the following announcement about a workshop on preparing churches for winter. Don?t know if anyone in your group can go, but if not, maybe you can request any handouts that are used for the workshop. This group did a great job with an earlier workshop on general church rehab issues, so the info should be helpful. I realized that I was supposed to send you electronic versions of the info that I gave you at the meeting so you can share it more easily with the group. Sorry I forgot to take care of that sooner! Attached are the following: List of funding resources in Mass. Info on National Trust for Historic Preservation funds (not sure if those grants are still available ? the Trust has recently revamped its mission ? but it doesn?t hurt to ask!) List of online directories of preservation consultants and contractors List of schools with historic preservation and non-profit management programs that might be good resources for information and/or interns List of town hall adaptive reuse projects that might be worth checking out for ideas and inspiration And, since you?ve been discussing window repair, I?ve also attached a list of window repair shops. Alison Hardy, the Window Woman that you mentioned, has an excellent reputation. I hope this material is helpful. Keep me posted! Regards, Michele Michele P. We look forward to seeing you! Before the snow flies.... Pilgrim Church, Upham's Corner, c. 1920. Courtesy of the Boston Public Library, Leslie Jones Collection Preparing Your House of Worship for Winter: A Workshop by the Boston Preservation Alliance Saturday, October 29th, at 10 am St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 14 Cushing Ave., Dorchester What can you do to protect your historic religious building from the rigors of the winter ahead? LOTS! Come hear Jeff Shaw of Donham & Sweeney, Architects, and Tom Nutt-Powell from Massachusetts Interfaith Power and Light (MIP&L) discuss quick, easy, and inexpensive ways to minimize weather-related damage and save energy and money at the same time! Topics to be covered will include protecting foundations, walls and roofs, windows and doors; the different challenges facing masonry, wood, and metal; and how thermostats, interior "storm" windows, and added insulation can cut your energy costs and make your congregation and other users more comfortable. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free but space is limited so advance registration is required. Please RSVP to jneiswander at bostonpreservation.org. Jeff Shaw, AIA, LEED-AP is a Principal of Donham & Sweeney, Architects. His major projects include extensive renovation, restoration, and new construction at Saint Cecilia Parish in Boston, St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the Arlington Street Church, and Theodore Parker Church in West Roxbury, as well as First Parish Church in Saco, ME, in addition to Police and Fire Stations across the area. He is an active member of the Park Street Church in Boston, where he serves as a member of the finance and administration committee and the chair of the facilities committee as well as steering building and renovation projects as part of the church's 200th anniversary capital campaign. Thomas E. Nutt-Powell was co-founder and former President of MI&PL. He currently serves on the Executive Committee, with particular responsibility for Houses of Worship. He is a parishioner at All Saints Episcopal Church, Brookline, Massachusetts, where he has had major responsibility for over $1.6 million in capital improvements from 1992 to 2008, including new heating generation and distribution systems that resulted in a reduction of fuel use of about 40%. He works with parishes on comprehensive facilities assessments and is conducting a capital needs assessment for First Church Unitarian Universalist of Boston in the Back Bay.
