On Sunday afternoon July 17 from 1-6 pm the “Playing for Paint” benefit concert outside at the DeJa Brew Pub in Wendell will feature a diverse group of talented musicians from Wendell and beyond . They will be performing to help raise money to put a fresh coat of exterior paint on the Wendell Meetinghouse. The line up includes the Bear Mountain Boys, Josh Levangie, Francis Doughty, Richard Chase, David Boatwright and Boo Pearson of the Equalites, and Shelley Hines with friends including Carrie Ferguson and Jonathon Dorr.

Song writer Richard Chase of Orange will open the event with an acoustic set of original songs. A multi instrumentalist, Richard is well know in the North Quabbin region and has also performed in a variety of genres including orchestral, jazz, pop, rock and others on many stages from coast to coast.

Next Wendell resident Shelley Hines, who hails from Canada, will be performing a set of eclectic songs with several other musicians including Jonathon Dorr, formally of Loose Caboose, and Carrie Ferguson. Shelley has recorded with the Bare Naked Ladies and other successful Canadian recording artists and is know in the Pioneer Valley as a member of the former Pink Floyd tribute band Crazy Diamond. Carrie has recorded two albums which received rave reviews and is well known in the valley for her folk pop tunes and ballads.

Francis Doughty of Wendell is a fingerstyle guitarist who is often compared to Leo Kotke. For many years Francis preformed around the northeast in addition to many radio and several television appearances. As he is only preforming occasionally these days, this is a special opportunity to enjoy his evocative music.

Josh Levangie of the Pistoleros, also from Wendell, will preform a solo acoustic set of classic outlaw county tunes, such as Johnny Cash, and Waylon and Willie and later join the Bear Mountain Boys who will finish the show starting at about 4 pm.

The Bear Mountains Boys draws its influence from the Mississippi Delta and Texas blues traditions with Perry Howarth on lead guitar, Peter Kim on bass, Brandon Tarbox on rhythm guitar, Bill Klock on drums, and Myron Becker on harmonica. David Boatright and Boo Pearson will also be joining them for this special event along with Josh and several of the other performers.

The bar will be open for drinks thought the show. Suggested cover is $10-20. The concert is sponsored by Friends of the Wendell Meetinghouse www.wendell-meetinghouse.org.
