From msundell65 at hotmail.com Sun Dec 3 20:39:56 2017 From: msundell65 at hotmail.com (marianne sundell) Date: Mon, 4 Dec 2017 01:39:56 +0000 Subject: [wendell-meetinghouse] Reminder Presentation on our plans to restore the Wendell Meetinghouse -Monday at Friends of the Wendell Meetinghouse Annual Meeting References: Message-ID: This a reminder that everyone is invited to join us Monday December 4th at 6:30 pm at Wendell Senior Center for the Friends of the Wendell Meetinghouse annual meeting. Jerry Barilla, our project manager, will be giving a brief presentation on our plans to restore the Wendell Meetinghouse along with our annual election. Jerry worked with architect Margo Jones on the plans the restore the meetinghouse and with Renaissance Builders who provided a detailed budget for our historic structures report. He also oversees all of our construction projects. Please visit our website www.wendell-meetinghouse.org to learn more about FWM. Our annual meeting is when we have our election. As officers terms are staggered, the only seat regularly set for the election this year is Vice President. We are also still looking for a clerk and would be so grateful if somebody could put in the 2 hours a month to do this job. Charles Smith has been serving as VP. Given recent health challenges, and reaching his 80's, I suspect he would welcome another person relieving him of the obligation to attend brief monthly meetings. As a board member he would always be welcome to join us without the same obligation to help make a quorum. Anyone who is interested in serving as VP or clerk is welcome to run. Our officers meet monthly at a time that works for all. The only official job of the VP is to lead meeting when the president is unable to do so. The clerk just needs to keep minutes at our monthly minutes which run about an hour. We also set have a few seats open on our board. Board members only need to come to a few meetings a year and otherwise support the effort in whatever ways they choose. In the event that we have a contest for our officers and a real election, your membership must be up to date in order to vote. Anybody who has made a donation of $10 or more, donated a prize, or played a benefit concert for us in 2017 is up to date on their membership. Everyone else is welcome to renew their membership at the meeting. As we approach the resolution of the legal problems related to ownership, we are hoping that our historic structures report will help us to access grants reopen the building in the not so distant future which should be exciting! In order to pull this off we still need a few more folks to play a bigger role in this project. Once the building is open it could serve a multitude of uses. My favorite role model is the Wellfleet Preservation Hall (www.wellfleetpreservationhall.org) Some the activities there include music, movies, theater, dances, movement classes, winter farmers market, community and seasonal celebrations, weddings, after school and summer kid classes, and workshops and meetings for adults. So anybody with an interest in space for any of these activities is encouraged to consider helping bring a similar community center to Wendell. Please join us on Sunday January 7, 2018 for a brief open house in the chilly Wendell Meetinghouse from 2-3 followed by wine, cheese, and potluck treats with informational displays at the DejaBrew starting at 2:30. At about 3:15 we?ll have a vision circle for everyone to share their dreams of using the meetinghouse. After the circle there will be be a quick presentation on volunteer opportunities and time for planning a follow up event on February 11, also from 3-5 at the DejaBrew which will include a presentation on the plans to restore the building. We encourage everybody who has been supporting our mission with with gifts of time & work, performance, prizes, art etc to join us and share your visions, insights, and wisdom even if you don?t have much time to get involved. It would be wonderful if other talented members of our community who could shine in the the space join us too. We?re also looking more people who can put even a little time into this project. Expanding our circle of members will enable us to succeed at re-opening the building quickly. As an introduction to some neighbors and a reminder to others ?our mission is to preserve, maintain, and protect the Wendell Meetinghouse, a cornerstone of the Wendell Common and Historic District. Once the building has been restored to its former glory, it shall then be available for historical exhibits, cultural and spiritual programs, and it will serve as a meeting place for special events.? Perhaps the fresh coat of paint that was our major project in 2017 can help you envision the Wendell Meetinghouse open and alive as an abundant showcase of local talent and spirit complete with seasonal celebrations with the Wendell Community Chorus; Celtic offerings from Kellianna; family friendly sing alongs with Carrie, Shelly and Ed Heinz; exhibits featuring local artists Donna Horn, Bob Ellis and others; theater featuring Court Dorsey and friends; spoken word with Paul Richmond, Mike Mauri and more; winter farmers, craft, & healing markets; shimmy?s with the Crescent Dancers; weddings and memorials featuring Dina Stander & Kai with receptions at town hall featuring feasts by Kathleen; plenty of room for yoga, meditation, martial arts, dance; historic exhibits upstairs; space for creative kids programs; someplace in Wendell for Cooper?s & Bahai group?s workshops; a special spot to see visiting Chinese students perform; plenty of room for Rosie?s most popular speakers and Sunday morning events; musicians from Ajika Sawyer to Francis Doughty, the Equalites, Adam Bergeron, Bear Mountain Boys, Carrie Ferguson, the Josh Levangie, To the Moon, Peter Kim, Myron Becker, Pioneer Valley Gay Mens Chorus, the Gypsy Wranglers and more; and of course gospel led by Moonlight Davis filling the halls... These are some of our visions for the Wendell Meetinghouse. We look forward to hearing yours on Jan 7th. Along with your visions please bring friends, family, and a sweet or savory treat if you?re so inclined. Marianne Sundell
